Presenting what he called the “preservation of the elegant woman,” Prabal Gurung delivered a beautifully bold Spring/Summer 2014 collection seemingly dating from the fifties. With inspiration from photographs of Marilyn Monroe in Bert Stern’s “Last Sitting”, Gurung brings sex appeal back — accentuating woman’s curves in calf-length pencil skirts. His fifties gal struts in sexy pointed pumps, slenderizing silhouettes, and excessively embellished dresses. The collection swings into modernity with razor blade ear cuffs and 3D laser mapped rings from a collaboration with Chris Habana. Gurung’s fresh white top with wide short sleeves, and painted coat that played with transparency are what reeled me in. His fantastic designs kept me wanting more.
