On Friday, January 6th, I arrived to San Juan. I planned to visit Puerto Rico with my BFF, Christine Gutierrez. The sweet escape was coordinated on Thanksgiving Eve, on our way to her family’s home. In honor of my recent decision to take a long (it’s looking like forever), much-needed break from alcohol, 3 months ago, I wanted to celebrate the new gifts this breakup has brought me. Through accepting a few changes in my life, I was able to feel life, fully and truly, like never before.
This is all God’s doing, man you can’t plan it.
Christine and I stayed at The Dreamcatcher, a vegetarian bed and breakfast, for the first 4 days of our trip. Upon arrival, Sylvia (The Dreamcatcher’s creator) greeted, and welcomed us to our gorgeous room. We had an entire floor to ourselves, with an open-style kitchen and living room, which you can see here. There was also an exposed shower, that was the icing on the tropical cake that was our little casita (house).
After settling in, we took to the beach on Ocean Park, which was walking distance from our studio. Later that evening, we had dinner at The Dreamcatcher, crafted by Chef Jerome, who is a magician in the kitchen. My lips and tongue have never tasted something so magical as his food. Every bite was pure bliss. I hope you all follow me on Instagram, and if you do, you’ve gotten a glimpse at my meals.
Our first day was a great setup for the weekend ahead. Saturday morning, Christine and I set out to a beach in Piñones. Between the bouts of showers, we were able to capture a few good shots, and finally relax on the sand.
I must have come across twenty, or more, street cats in San Juan, and each time I tried to makes friends with them. This here was my little Pablo. While we waited for the downpour to pass, we ate alcapurias and drank from coconuts, island style. It was the best Saturday I’ve had in a long time, truth be told.
There is more from my adventure and soul discovery, in Puerto Rico, coming in part 2. Stay Tuned!
