Maison Martin Margiela has produced quite an eccentric array of reassembled pieces for his Haute Couture collection this season. Specifically utilizing 20’s and 50’s vintage garments, Margiela’s ‘Artisanal’ collection of sleeveless jackets worn as dresses, foil frocks crafted from metallic candy wrappers, and hand crimped velvet gowns were genuinely one-of-a-kind. The Belgian designer reintroduced those famed face masks from his Fall 2012 Couture collection, darker and definitely less gleaming. Margiela’s paint covered varnished wedge boots and transformed trench coats were my most coveted. Paint seemed to have gotten onto most pieces, or so it seemed. Garments were adorned with white beading in the form of brush strokes, completely changing the look and feel of everything.
