One of my favorite fashion icons once said (in a movie), “…my head’s in the Witness Protection Program.” In an attempt to disguise herself, she darkened her hair, ultimately making herself unrecognizable. I have often felt my head too, was in the Witness Protection Program, feeling unrecognizable to myself. I was born with very dark brown hair. Growing up, I never really cared for my brunette locks and only dreamed of the day I could change them.
It wasn’t easy, though. Coming from a Latin family, I was told that having any other color besides my own would make me “fake” and look “unnatural”. This lie held me back for years. Even to this day, 8 out of 10 women feel pressured to wear their hair a certain way. Dove Hair is on a mission to broaden the definition of beautiful hair by celebrating all hair — not because it conforms to someone else’s beauty standards, but because it makes you feel beautiful. I am working with Dove Hair to spread this message.
I now love my blonde hair, but I loved it when it was peach, fuchsia, and even when it was platinum. I don’t let anyone tell my what to do with my hair anymore, and you shouldn’t either. Watch the Dove Hair Love Your Hair film, and don’t forget to check out the Dove Hair Pinterest Board where you can see all my hair transformations.
