Back in 2008, my blog was born. It was actually on November 25th (a few days after turning 25) that I launched LeCityKitty.com. After losing my retail job, during a time when the economy was failing, I felt lost. I went to college for Graphic Design at The Art Institute of New York, but I had zero desire to fulfill that career. During college, I had a number of fashion jobs—ranging from sales to styling, but I wasn’t sure where I was going. Around that time, a friend suggested I create a blog. Even though I had no idea what a blog was, I figured it out. Back then; Apple had a program called iWeb, which is what I used to create my platform.
Le City Kitty started out as an online portfolio for my future career in styling, or so I thought. Life happened over and over again, in the months to come. I fell out of a 6 year relationship, moved a couple of times, and tried to rediscover myself—resulting in my blog taking a backseat. I continued to create posts on a weekly basis, and eventually took a full-time job. (I was constantly told blogging wasn’t a career, and I believed that for a while.) In 2011, I entered Refinery29’s ‘Next Big Style Blogger‘ contest, and succeeded as a finalist. It was then when I truly pushed myself as a blogger.
I began booking small campaigns after the contest and wanted to really build out my platform. I was still using iWeb, but like many other Apple products, it became obsolete. So, I moseyed on over to WordPress in 2014, and have been using it ever since. Through this journey, I have learned so much. I’ve done a great deal of research on starting and maintaining a blog, to sourcing a beautiful theme. I have worked very hard on building a brand that has been extremely gratifying, and wish to offer myself as a strong asset to helping you create (or rebrand) your blog. I would love to share with you what I’ve learned along the way. Keep reading to get started!
If I could give blog advise to myself as a new blogger, I would offer up these 5 tips. Although everything takes time, and success doesn’t happen over night, these steps will hopefully point you in the right direction. I am always here to answer any questions you might have. Please feel free to leave them in the comments below.
