Last weekend, I had the pleasure of partying with Ray-Ban at Governors Ball. I actually received an invite to attend the music festival from OGX Beauty, as well. I had a jam-packed few days ahead of me and was so stoked. The lineup listed a few of my favorite artists, from Kahlani, Lorde, Chance The Rapper, Flume, Charlie XCX, Wu-Tang Clan, Childish Gambino, BANKS, and so many more! I was really looking forward to Saturday when Wu-Tang was performing. I grew up on music from the East Coast rappers, and couldn’t contain my excitement to hear them live.
GOVERNORS BALL DAY 1
When Friday came I was all too thrilled to prep for the occasion. I picked up a pair of sporty velcro sandals from Aldo, and paired it with a romper from Free People. A few days prior, I visited the boohoo pop-up for a Gov Ball pull, and added an embodied denim jacket to my arsenal. Ready to get the party started, I headed straight to the Ray-Ban VIP luxury suite for mini burgers and popcorn. Upon arrival I was gifted a goodie bag with a pair of really cool green and pink sunglasses. To my happy surprise, the weather was fabulous. But nothing could prepare me for the incredible production that was Lorde. Fireworks concluded her performance, along with roars from the crowd.
GOVERNORS BALL DAY 2
Did I mention I had to walk over a bridge Friday night? Because I did, and was so exhausted Saturday morning. Nevertheless, Wu-Tang was on my mind, so I pulled it together with an all-glitter ensemble. Another stunner from boohoo was this sequin floral military jacket. I tied it together with cut-off Levis shorts, a basic t-shirt and my limited edition Vans. I met with a few blogger friends when I arrived, but parted ways when it was Wu time. I’m working on my editing skills, but below is a video I recorded in the midst of me jumping and rapping. My secondary school days flashed before my eyes when the Staten Island squad performed songs from Wu-Tang Forever. This day marked the 20th anniversary of the album.
GOVERNORS BALL DAY 3
It was a bummer that Sunday was an ugly rainy day, but that didn’t stop me from heading back to Randall’s Island, one last time. With platform Dr. Martens on my feet, I rolled up to the last day of Governors Ball looking like G.I. Jane. I didn’t expect to stay the entire day, but I knew I had to at least watch Warpaint go on. Wiz Khalifa was set to play that evening, but that seemed too far fetched, even in my plastic poncho (caught only on Instagram Stories). I hung around for two Warpaint songs, then popped by the OGX Beauty cabana for a quick photo and jetted off. Governors Ball was quite the fête and I was more than happy to be apart of it. Thanks again, Ray-Ban!
