I shed a tear for Alexander Wang when I previewed his debut collection for Balenciaga. It has been amazing to watch him develop over the years as a designer. His talents expressed through his namesake collection and his elevated street wear label T by Alexander Wang has earned him a creative director position at the Balenciaga house. I believe he has done everyone proud, from those who have questioned his skill, to those who have stood by his side since the very beginning. Wang’s proposal, “I’m going back to the roots, identifying the codes of the house, and translating them into a functioning, full wardrobe.” A beautiful Fall/Winter 2013 collection of cocoon shapes, peplums, and petal skirts. Wang remained true to Basque designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. Faux marble appeared to be the inspiration behind the collection, printed on tops, embroidered on dresses, and intricately cut from fox jackets in an intarsia style. I am not a big fan of T-strap heels but Wang has won me over, as I knew he would, with his deep cleavage marbled shoes. Finally, Wang’s cracked marble-motif knits were incredibly special. Alex presented an amazing collection. I cannot wait to see what he has up his sleeve for next season.
