It is a new year and for most of us that means we are gearing up to start a new year of crazy work cycles. For some that implies early mornings, traveling a ton, and sleeping on planes. As a result having to deal with dry skin, flat hair, and awful manicures due to lugging our suitcases around. This week I am headed to sunny Los Angeles, California for work and I wanted to share with you my key tips I use when traveling. It is highly imperative that I do not appear like a zombie when I arrive at my destination.
TIP #1: WASH & PACK
First things first, you must plan ahead. You should pack one travel case just for your makeup, and another for your beauty supplies. Please WASH YOUR BRUSHES and air dry them before traveling. Your brushes will be softer and applying makeup will be that much easier.
TIP #2: DRINK WATER
You should also be drinking lots of water a few days before your trip. Water not only prevents us from getting sick, but it also keeps you hydrated, i.e., clear skin and looking thin. We want to avoid the appearance of having bloated little bellies.
TIP #3: EXFOLIATE
Be sure to pack an exfoliating cleanser and a separate face wash for your skin type. If you are unable to travel with these bottles because of liquid regulations, I suggest buying a soap bar such as Aveeno Active Naturals Moisturizing Bar for Dry Skin, or Cetaphil’s Gentle Cleansing Bar. These are both great cleansing products that won’t dry out your skin. Some favorite brands I like to use are Boscia and Murad. Their bottles are perfect for traveling.
TIP #4: MOISTURIZE
I cannot stress how important it is to moisturize. You should start moisturizing days before if it is not already part of your beauty regimen. I like to use Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Cream by Fresh in the morning and at night alongside a great moisturizing cream like Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar. Packing cremes for day and night is really helpful. It keeps you moisturized and ready for any type of climate.
TIP #5: LIGHT AND EASY
Do not cake on the makeup before flying. If possible, try your best to go with a fresh face. Using a toner mist in the morning and a tinted moisturizer will give you a healthy and beautiful glow without having to use many products. You can even apply some blush and one coat of mascara and you’re ready to go! Keep your makeup bag with you in your carryon and freshen up once you land just by washing your face and re-moisturizing.
I like to apply a bright colored lipstick once I arrive to add a splash of color to my face. Origins Flower Fusion Hydrating Lip Color is fantastic. It comes in a variety of adorable colors AND doubles as a lip moisturizer. An inexpensive alternative that works just as well is Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color. They are priced around $2 and come in great colors as well. If you’re a simple gal you can opt for a lip balm or gloss for the plane. I like using real bees wax for my lips and dry areas on my skin.
TIP #6: HAIR SAVER
The best idea I have had when traveling was to get my locks blow dried the day before. It really will make your life much easier. Your hair will be styled and ready to go. If you need to, you can simply touch it up with your flatiron, or dry shampoo on those busy work days.
TIP #7: HYDRATE
You will want to hydrate your skin while flying and in between layovers. I prefer to use Josie Maran’s Lavender Mist from Sephora. Spray the calming lavender mist over your face and skin mid flight, and after you touch down. This is the perfect partner when you are traveling to those warmer climates. Make sure to bring a travel size hand and body lotion as well. L’Occitane Shea Butter extra gentle lotion for hands and body is definitely my favorite. It feels like butter on your skin and is awesome for dry hands. It is even safe to use on your face.
All in all it takes effort to take care for ourselves. If you do the work you will see the results, and by prepping for your trip you will remain looking fresh no matter how tired you may feel!
