When I heard that Acne’s Resort 2013 collection was influenced by Madonna’s ‘Ray Of Light’ video, I just had to take a look. I mean, the video was cool but I was hoping the collection wasn’t all denim jackets and pants with glitter belts. Thankfully, I was relieved with what Jonny Johansson, Acne’s creative director, had to offer. “We wanted to explore the idea of a young girl who lives in a fast-paced environment. She’s the kind of person who’s quick and vocal and communicates herself in a street-style kind of way.” But there’s more to the collection that just Madonna’s flashy pop video. Johansson expresses Acne’s new money print was meant to evoke the hive of frenetic energy that is Wall Street – and with that, the current economic crisis. Johansson also delights that their dip-dyed silk shirts were meant to look as if the Acne gal had done it herself. Am I to believe designers are now inspired by the DIY bloggers of the fashion world? I would hope so, as they always inspire me. Needless to say the collection was fabulous, and I am living for those printed frames!
